Biltmore Engagement Photo 101 | Location Ideas + How to Prepare
The Biltmore Estate is easily one of the most majestic places to visit near downtown Asheville. With its grand architecture, gardens, and romantic mountain views, it’s no wonder that couples travel from all over to have their engagement photos taken here. The estate is truly a masterpiece.
The Biltmore House, a 250-room French Renaissance château, stands as the heart of the estate. Surrounding it, you’ll find vibrant gardens, a gorgeous greenhouse, a charming winery, and unbeatable views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Seriously, what more could you ask for in a dreamy engagement shoot?
Biltmore Photography Rules & Tips
Because of the estate’s popularity, there are some important things to know before planning a photoshoot at Biltmore. As expected with a historic property that sees thousands of visitors, flash photography is not allowed inside the house. If you’re on a self-guided tour, you’re welcome to take pictures inside, but only with natural light using your camera or phone. Professional photos are not allowed inside.
For outdoor photography, casual photos are allowed, but engagement, wedding, and professional photography require prior written consent. This means you’ll need to contact the Biltmore’s wedding or media departments to secure written permission. It’s always a good idea to plan ahead and make sure you have everything lined up before your session.
Popular Photography Spots
Photographing engagements and weddings at the Biltmore is one of my absolute favorite things to do in Asheville. Having worked all over the property, I know the best hidden gems and most romantic backdrops to make your engagement photos unforgettable.
One of the most popular locations is the Walled Garden, which bursts with seasonal flowers, adding vibrant colors and a romantic atmosphere to your pictures. The Italian Garden offers a more classic and elegant vibe with its beautiful reflecting pools. If you’re looking for mountain views, the South Terrace and Diana Statue area are perfect spots to capture the grandeur of the estate with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background.
No matter where we shoot, my goal is to make sure you and your partner not only have beautiful, intimate moments captured but also take home memories of this incredible location that you’ll always cherish.
Surprise Engagements
Want to pop the question at the Biltmore and capture your partner’s raw, emotional reaction? I’m all in. I’ve hidden in bushes, boats, and even behind trees to make sure the surprise stays intact! Whatever it takes to keep the moment special and discreet, I’ll do it.
Best Time for Engagement Photos
If you’re wondering when to schedule your shoot, spring is one of the most magical times at the Biltmore. The entire estate comes alive with lush greenery, blooming flowers, and warm golden light, making it the perfect season for romantic outdoor photos. Whether you want an elegant garden backdrop or a scenic mountain view, spring at the Biltmore delivers on every level.
No matter the season, the Biltmore offers a picture-perfect setting for engagements, weddings, and beyond. If you're ready to create stunning memories at one of the most iconic estates in the country, let’s start planning your dream engagement session!
